Native American Culture

The Native American culture is very colourful as their gilded histories are rich in strife, struggle and triumph. Many features and aspects of living we can see today have been adapted from the old Native American cultures that were centuries ago.

Many symbols that we are familiar with today were actually originated by the Native Americans. The totem pole, tee pee, moccasins and the peace pipe are a few popular examples, but each of them was originally tiny little pieces of a larger picture that once wove together the tapestry of the Native American way of living.

The symbols were used for many purposes like to depict the language of life, nature and the Indian spirit and to evoke assistance from the spirits. They viewed all things as having a spirit whether it was animate or inanimate, could be touched and seen or not. They thought of the universe as being all encompassing--holding the powers and secrets of deeper meaning. The Native Americans had a great awareness of everything around them and they strived to live in harmony with their world and their universe.
