The Lion Dance has been performed in China for hundreds of years and still remains a powerful image of East Asian culture. The dance is often performed at special events such as weddings, new business openings and New Year. The Chinese believe that a well-performed Lion Dance will ward away evil spirits and bring good luck on the marriage/business/New Year. This idea of luck is portrayed in the dance as the Lion searches for 'The Greens' (this is usually a lettuce, but any green vegetable can be used); these represent the good luck. Once the lion has found 'The Greens' it will spread them throughout the area bringing good luck to everyone.
