Sleeping in coffin

DEVOTEES of a Chinese temple in Penang believe that they can get rid of bad luck by taking part in a “sleep in a coffin” ritual, reported Guang Ming Daily.
They believe that by following the ritual of sleeping in one of the five coffins in the temple for a minute, they would be blessed with good fortune.
The youngest devotee who took part in the ritual was a seven-year-old boy who was said to be disturbed by a spirit.
As he was too young to sleep in the coffin, he was asked to sleep on the lid.
However, not everyone was allowed to sleep in the coffin because the devotees needed the temple medium's permission.
“Despite coming several times, some were not allowed to take part.
“The medium only allows those who are really in need to take part in the ritual,” said a devotee.
The daily reported that even if the devotees received permission from the medium, they still had to get the “nod” from the Hell Gods.
A businessman who took part in the ritual 10 years ago said his work had improved.
“Different people have different feelings when sleeping in the coffin.
“To me, the 60-second ritual seemed like a few minutes.
“After I closed my eyes, I felt like my body was floating and I could see light,” he said.
Another devotee, a 21-year-old, said he decided to take part in the ritual after three relatives died within a period of less than two months while another was disturbed by office politics.
> Sin Chew Daily reported that Hong Kong actor Nicholas Tse and his estranged wife Cecilia Cheung had agreed on their divorce settlement following a third discussion between their lawyers.
According to Hong Kong media, the 16-hour discussion was held on Thursday in Hong Kong.
The daily reported that they would not disclose anything about the settlement at present but that they would make a public announcement later.
